Course description

The purpose of the course is to help schools that are their own admissions authority to understand their legal duties as detailed in the School Admissions Code 2014 (the Code). The Code is the current statutory guidance that applies to all maintained schools and Academies. 

This two module course delivers two CPD hours and comprehensively covers:

  • an introduction to the Code
  • the law and guidance on school admissions
  • the role of the admissions authority in setting and consulting on its admissions arrangements
  • the role of the Schools Adjudicator
  • the key considerations of the Code
  • the key actions that an admissions authority must carry out under the Code.

Course Content

1. Introduction to the Code

This module covers the law and guidance on schools admissions. It also looks at the role of the admissions authority in setting and consulting on its admission arrangements, as well as its duty to publish them. Finally this module covers how people can object to the arrangements by appealing to the Schools Adjudicator.  

2. Key Considerations of the Code

This module has explained some of the key issues that an admissions authority must take into account when setting their admission arrangements.

The School Admissions course concludes with two multiple choice questionnaires with a printable certificate. As well as printable user certificates, your training progress and results are stored on your learning management platform.
