Why David Walliams supports Kidscape

David recorded a message about online bullying and why he supports kidscape:

“I am pleased to be supporting Kidscape because I have been shocked by what the friends who have children have told me about the bullying that goes on online. Incredible, hurtful comments are often left anonymously about other children. The children who are on the receiving end of the bullying find it incredibly difficult to deal with, they find it incredibly difficult to talk to anyone about it and of course their behaviour can completely change and they can go into a very, very dark place. Maybe the children leaving the comments think it is funny. Maybe they aren’t deliberately trying to be cruel, but the effects can be devastating.

“Of course this is something that is hard for parents and grandparents to understand because there are so many platforms and parts of the internet where young people communicate with each other. It is very difficult to keep track of them and new ones crop up all the time.

“Kidscape is doing a really important job in educating parents about online bullying and trying to help them know how to deal with it because it is a very complex area that is not limited to a small number of people.

“I am delighted to be supporting kidscape as it is doing a brilliant job in an area which doesn’t get much attention or support.”

In the appeal David will be highlighting the dangers posed for young people online and the ways in which Kidscape can help parents, grandparents and other adults support them.

The appeal will air on Radio 4 on Sunday 6 August at 07:55 with a repeat at 21:26, and again on Thursday 10 August at 15:27.

Kidscape wrote the recent update to EduCare’s Preventing Bullying online training course. The course is included in EduCare for Education® and EduCare for Sport®, our comprehensive e-Learning packages which combine essential Safeguarding and Duty of Care courses with a robust reporting suite that evidences learning to inspectors.
