Sports and Recreation Alliance

Vigilance in every sector can protect our children from ‘county lines’

This September, our partners at the Sport and Recreation Alliance are hosting their Annual Conference where they will be looking into the social impact of sport and recreation. As part of this, they will discuss how sport can play a crucial part in crime prevention. Whilst sport and recreation can offer opportunities to children and young people to take them off the street and into organised activity, there remains a requirement for our coaches and volunteers to stay vigilant to the threat of criminal gangs and to protect our children and young people from ‘county lines’.

When a young person begins to show the signs of exploitation or vulnerability to exploitation, we should be able to intervene at an earlier stage to help reduce the risk factors and increase the protective factors to safeguard those involved.

EduCare's online course on Serious Youth Violence, written in partnership with The Children’s Society can help you understand more about exploitation and county lines and the links to knife crime and serious violence.
