2020: our training recommendations for this year

Our Pastoral Care Expert, Dawn Jotham, discusses what safeguarding issues are facing schools right now and provides her recommendations for training topics to take this year.

"We are continuing to see wellbeing positioned as a priority. Looking after the mental health of our children and young people will always be a focus, but since the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework was introduced, Staff Wellbeing has, thankfully, gained prominence too.

EduCare will continue our 'Reframe the blame' campaign throughout this year as we seek to provide all professionals with the latest and best information on the continuing threat of exploitation such as county lines, violent crime and contextual safeguarding.

What training should schools focus on?

To help keep all our customers up-to-date with all these safeguarding, wellbeing and duty of care issues, here are our training recommendations for this year.

 

Staff Wellbeing

Whether you want to focus on your own wellbeing or are looking out for your colleagues, you will find information, guidance and support in this course. It considers the meaning of wellbeing, its impact on individuals and the workplace, common mental health issues and the causes of work-related stress.

The course also explores what positive staff wellbeing means in practice, and how you can help to create it.

Overcoming Loneliness

Within just the first week of launch over 500 people accessed this course that has been written in partnership with The Children's Society.  The course helps learners to understand what is meant by loneliness, the triggers for loneliness and how it can affect children or young people.

Also included are ideas for helping children and young people overcome loneliness and where to go for further support.

Digital Resilience

Produced in association with YoungMinds, this course will help learners to understand how online behaviour affects emotional wellbeing, digital resilience and how to build it.

It will look particularly at the social aspect of how children and young people use the internet, and the risks involved and the impact of social media on emotional wellbeing.

Recognising that the children involved in CSE are victims is starting to be better understood, but we still have a long way to go across many agencies and also within our communities

In this first webinar in our ‘Reframe the blame’ series we meet Billie and follow their story as they meet a new set of friends and experience a range of different exploitation models. The webinar covers the models in detail and will show professionals how Billie is groomed and exploited.

Reframe the blame – The Importance of Language

Tuesday January 14th – 4.00 – 5.00pm

When discussing children and young people who have been exploited it is important that appropriate terminology is used. In this webinar we look more closely at myths and misconceptions of exploitation and consider how language can imply the child or young person is to blame.

We continue to follow Billie as they seem to be exploiting their own family and peers. We will ask you to consider if Billie is a victim or perpetrator?
