New courses for Scottish childminders

EduCare and the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) have developed four new online distance learning courses to complement their taught workshops. The new courses are:

- Getting it right for every child

- Child-led planning

- Safe and secure – Child protection

- Infection prevention and control in childcare settings.

The courses are intended to embed best practice amongst the SCMA’s childminding members, with each closely following the Scottish Government’s drive to put children, young people and their families at the heart of all services intended for them – whether they live at home or not.

Head of Childminding Services, Anne Condie, said: “We approached EduCare because we are very keen that all our members have access to the skills and knowledge that will ensure their childminding business thrives. Whilst we run many workshops and training events, we serve a diverse and geographically remote membership, so online learning seemed ideal because everyone can access it.

“We have now launched our four new courses. Each has its own personalised certificate that members can download when they achieve the course pass mark, so the learning is robust and tested.

“The response from our members has been marvellous. They really appreciate all the courses and we are delighted that we have been able to offer them this new flexible way of learning.

“The EduCare learning management system is very easy-to-use, making it an ideal way for our members to learn with SCMA, understand Scottish government guidance and contribute to their continuing professional development.

“We expected all our dealings with EduCare to be highly professional throughout and from the writing and design to the delivery and hosting of the courses, they didn’t disappoint.

“We are so pleased with the outcome of this partnership that we are now planning a new series of learning courses for our members.”
