Child Protection Refresher 2025
The aim of this three-module course is to help anyone who works with children and young people in education settings and other child-focused environments to improve their understanding of the definitions and signs of abuse and outlines recent changes in child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and government advice. It also serves as a refresher on responding to and reporting abuse.
This course is written in partnership with NWG, a charitable organisation formed as a UK network of over 14,500 practitioners who work together to inform, educate and prevent child exploitation and abuse throughout the UK. The modules in this course cover the following content:
1. Back to Basics
Module one explores the varying forms and signs of child abuse and child exploitation. It also covers online abuse, child abduction and extremism and radicalisation. It also outlines amendments to relevant legislation and guidance.
2. Recognising Abuse
Module two explores how to recognise signs of abuse and dealing with disclosures. It covers your responsibility when it comes to allegations against staff and the importance of a child-centred approach.
3. The Changing Face of Safeguarding
Module three explores several current safeguarding concerns, including the use of smartphones and COVID 5 years on.
Throughout the course, you will be asked questions to test your knowledge or to reflect upon current practice in the settings where you work with children and young people. If you are a Designated Safeguarding Lead, there are additional reflective questions for someone in your role to aid understanding and embed learning.
