Safeguarding in Health

This course has been developed for anyone who has completed the Level 2 Safeguarding Children course.
This two-module course follows the guidance outlined in the 'Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for Healthcare Staff' intercollegiate document. It also follows the Core Skills Training Framework.
The content will help you to understand the following:
- Child maltreatment
- What maltreatment is
- How to recognise the signs of maltreatment and fabricated or induced illness
- Assessment Frameworks & risk assessments including information on contextual safeguarding
- Effects of parental behaviour on the child, risks to the unborn child, looked after children and maltreatment of adults at risk
- Efective management plans, including Section 47 of the Children Act 1989 and Section 42 of the Care Act 2014
- Legislation and Guidance including:
- The Human Rights Act 1989
- The Children Act 1989 & 2004
- The Children and Social Work Act 2017
- Working Together to to Safeguard Children 2018
- Data Protection Act 2018
- The Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
- The Care Act 2014 (2018)
- Information and communication
- Information sharing and confidentiality including details on Gillick competence/Fraser guidelines
- Effective communication and additional information on chaperones
- Report writing and details on being a professional witness
- Attitudes and values including information on a number of cultural or religious factors that may feature in child maltreatment
- Lessons learnt from serious case reviews including common themes
- Good practice, your roles and responsibilities, the impact of safeguarding on professionals and training
