Written by the NSPCC this EduCare programme is designed to inform and assist anyone involved in the recruitment of staff and volunteers into roles which require working or coming into contact with children and young people.
This programme is delivered in five concise modules with questionnaires to test understanding and is available either paper-based or online. On successful completion, participants are awarded a personalised EduCare/NSPCC certificate.
Module 1 – Preparing to recruit
Discover what the key processes of safer recruitment are; how to define an individual’s job role; what to include in an application pack and how to plan your selection process.
Module 2 – Selecting the right people
Learn about the key elements of a safer selection process; shortlisting and interviews; choosing the right selection tools for your needs and effective assessment criteria.
Module 3 – Vetting checks 1
Understand vetting checks and those which are applicable during recruiting; the importance of references; how to check qualifications and identity documents and the issues of self-disclosure.
Module 4 – Vetting checks 2
Examine the legal situation; the key points of criminal record checks and how to deal with applications from overseas candidates.
Module 5 – Maintaining vigilance
Look at creating a culture of safety; implementing induction and probationary periods; using training appraisals and codes of conduct and supervising, management and whistle-blowing.
If you answer 70% of the answers correctly within each questionnaire you will receive a personalised EduCare/NSPCC certificate, feedback detailing your scores for each module and a set of answer explanations.
