For many SMEs, planning is not a regular part of their management process. Too many concentrate on day-to-day activities, reacting to events as they happen rather than incorporating regular planning into their normal routine and being prepared for problems (and advantages) that may arise. This programme is an essential starting point for owners, managers and supervisors who need to understand the essentials of business planning.
This EduCare programme is delivered in five concise modules with questionnaires to test understanding concluding with a final proficiency test, and is available either paper-based or online. On successful completion of the final proficiency test, participants will receive a personalised certificate.
Module 1 – Why plan?
Understand what makes a plan and what it can be used for; the importance of planning for smaller businesses and how to create a successful plan.
Module 2 – First steps in planning
Learn how to use the MOPE approach to structure your plan; establish your current position using a SWOT analysis; assess your performance and look at ways of improving your service.
Module 3 – The anatomy of the plan
Discover the eight elements of planning; the top 10 planning questions; how to focus on areas within the business and ways to share the vision and develop a mission statement.
Module 4 – Goals and strategies
Examine ways of defining realistic goals, objectives, strategies and tactics; monitoring and measuring their success and implementing continual re-evaluation and re-assessment.
Module 5 – The tools to develop your plan
Understand your business, market-place and customers in more detail; how to give shape, substance and direction to your planning and the seven steps to contingency planning.
In order to complete the programme successfully you must complete the proficiency paper at the end of the programme, if you answer 80% on the proficiency test you will receive a personalised certificate, feedback detailing your scores for each section and a set of answer explanations.
