Data protection and information security have always been top priority for organisations, but recent media coverage has brought home the importance of compliance. Incidents involving data breaches from high profile brands, has sparked greater awareness and encouraged organisations to take data protection more seriously.

The result of one small error could cost an organisation its reputation, not to mention a six-figure penalty of up to £500,000. To date, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued fines ranging from £1,000 to £325,000 for various data protection breaches.

A significant proportion of those issued were to public sector bodies.

The ICO states that every school must have a named member of staff with a working knowledge of information rights and records management. Staff and governors should be trained so they understand the basics of effective data protection.

Ensure your organisation follows good practice with EduCare’s new Data Protection online training.
